Butter Caramel Hot Sip | THM: S

Save for later!

Back in the 2000s (can you believe that’s over a decade ago?), Tim Horton’s came out with a Winter-y drink called the Butter Caramel Hot Smoothie. I ordered one every time we found ourselves at Timmies (this was before I drank coffee).

It was so deliciously sweet, warm, and creamy. I liked it even more than hot chocolate.

The term “Hot Smoothie” didn’t even deter me; it was more like a hot sip – in the same category as a hot chocolate, but velvety smooth and white.

Unfortunately, it was the equivalent of drinking flavored sugar, and probably to my betterment that they discontinued it.

I found myself craving one yesterday, and decided to make a Trim Healthy Mama-friendly version instead. The Butter Caramel Hot Sip recipe here tastes just like how I remember it, except this one is free of sugar and loaded with protein!

I started out by browning butter and xylitol together in a saucepan for a butter-y base. (You could use Gentle Sweet instead, but in half the amount.)

Then I added a cup of unsweetened cashew milk. You could also unsweetened almond or coconut milk, but I find cashew milk to be the creamiest and it has the best flavor.

I poured this mixture into my Ninja and added a splash of heavy cream for smoothness, caramel extract for flavor, and a scoop of collagen for a protein boost.

Great Lakes and Trim Healthy Mama collagen are my two favorite brands. They are both made from grass-fed beef, resulting in a very pure form of dairy-free protein. I usually keep Great Lakes collagen on hand because I find it dissolves easier in colder drinks, but since this is a hot drink that gets blitzed in the blender, you should have no trouble with clumping from either one.

Alternatively, you could add a scoop of whey protein powder instead for an even frothier drink!

If you’re not a coffee-drinker, but have always wanted to try the benefits of bullet-proof coffee, this Butter Caramel Hot Sip is your caffeine-free alternative. It’s loaded up with all the same healthy fats and protein, but offers a buttery caramel flavor instead of a coffee one.

  2. This looks delicious. I don’t have any caramel extract at the moment, so I’m wondering how this would work if I used either vanilla or raspberry ? Just a different flavor ?
