Fruit Kabobs With Yogurt Dip | THM: E

Save for later!

Going into the holidays, Brad and I are making a concerted effort to keep our kids away from obscene amounts of sugar. Aside from sugar lowering their immunity during flu season, I don’t like what it does to our teeth and behavior either. These 5-minute fruit kabobs with yogurt dip satisfy our need for something sweet!

One of the things I love most about Trim Healthy Mama is that you can still eat fruit! It’s like candy from God; so sweet, pretty, and nutritious, too. The reason fruit has gotten a bad rap lately is because it’s usually not paired with a protein source, causing the good carbs to go straight to your blood stream and creating a spike. The Trim Healthy Mama way pairs healthy carbohydrates with lean protein to prevent a spike in blood sugar while still keeping you slim and energized.

These fruit kabobs are paired with a high-protein  yogurt dip, making a colorful, crowd-pleasing snack. You could use any combination of fruit here. I set the apple and pear chunks in a bowl of lemon juice while my 6 and 8 year-old threaded the fruit onto skewers. We had doubled the recipe for easy snacking, and they kept well for 3 days in the fridge, covered, without browning! Wooden skewers are safer than the metal ones, and cheap, too. Look for them in the grilling/oils/marinade section of your store or you can buy them online.

0% fat Greek yogurt is already loaded with protein, so you don’t have to add the collagen or protein powder to the dip. That’s just there for an additional boost. You can also use Gentle Sweet instead of xylitol in half the amount. Omitting the strawberries and using orange extract in place of vanilla is also delicious!

  1. I added three tablespoons of gentle sweet to get the sweetness I wanted, and added about half a teaspoon of gluccie to thicken because mine was runny.
